Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwight Powell scored 20 points and Josh Huestis recorded a double-double to carry the Stanford Cardinal to an 86-76 victory over the Houston Cougars in the semifinals of the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center.
Anthony Brown had 20 points and nine assists and Huestis tacked on 13 points and 13 rebounds for Stanford (5-1). Stefan Nastic tallied 14 points and Aaron Bright chipped in 11 points as well for the Cardinal, who take on Pittsburgh in the event's title game.
TaShawn Thomas posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds and also collected five steals and blocked three shots for Houston (5-1). Danuel House tallied 15 points and L.J. Rose chipped in 14 for the Cougars, who battle Texas Tech in consolation action on Tuesday.
The two teams were tied at 32-32 entering the break. Houston hit 45.2 percent of its shots from the field in the period but Stanford had advantages from beyond the arc (12-9) and the free-throw line (4-1) to keep the game even.
After the break the Cardinal found their rhythm and netted 66.7 percent from the floor to pull away for the victory.
Houston lost despite a 19-9 edge in points off turnovers. Stanford barely won the battle of the boards, 40-39.
