Overdue hiker found safe in Mount Rainier National Park

Staff writerNovember 27, 2013

Search crews Wednesday were looking for a 68-year-old Everett man who was reported missing after embarking on a solo day hike Tuesday at Mount Rainier.

Rangers found him about noon when he walked out on his own, park spokeswoman Lee Snook said.

It wasn't immediately clear why he spent the night, but he appeared to be prepared for overnight conditions, Snook said.

Crews had searched the first few miles of the Kautz Creek trail in the southwest corner of the park Wednesday morning before he was found.
