Seven people fled their Auburn apartment building after fire broke out during the early-morning hours Friday, firefighters said.

The blaze began about 3:20 a.m. in a two-story, four-unit building in the 2200 block of O Street Northeast, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.

Firefighters found heavy flames inside one of the first-story units. They were able to knock down the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby buildings, the agency said.

All the residents of the building got out uninjured, and no firefighters were hurt.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
