Man in custody after firefighters say he tried to barricade himself inside burning apartment

A Kent man was taken into custody after he tried to barricade himself in his burning apartment Sunday, according to Kent Fire.

Firefighters were dispatched about noon to the 24000 block of 110 Place Southeast to put out the fire, which they confined to the apartment where it started.

Authorities evacuated the 12-unit building, and there were no injuries reported.

Officials took the barricaded man to the hospital after he was evaluated at the scene by paramedics, according to Kent Fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
