Navy citizenship honor goes to Curtis High teacher

Curtis High School’s Navy JROTC teacher, Lt. Col. L. David Smith, recently was awarded the Navy JROTC Area 13 Citizenship Development Teacher of the Year Award for 2012-13.

Smith was selected from more than 150 instructors in an area that includes 13 states, Guam and Japan. He has been the lead instructor since 2007 and has helped expand the program to its current enrollment of 131 cadets.
