Gainesville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy announced Monday that he will forgo his final season of eligibility and declare for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Purifoy, a potential first or second-round pick, started his final two seasons with the Gators and recorded 24 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and seven pass breakups over 11 games in 2013. One of those picks came against Heisman candidate Jameis Winston in Saturday's 37-7 loss to now-No. 1 Florida State.

The former four-star prospect registered 51 tackles and three forced fumbles while blocking a pair of punts during his sophomore campaign.

"I have had a great three years at the University of Florida, but at this time I think it's best for me and my family to pursue a career in the NFL," said Purifoy in a statement released by the university. "Coach [Will] Muschamp and Coach [Travaris] Robinson have put me in a position to take the next step. I know there is still a lot of work for me ahead, but I appreciate what everyone at Florida did to get me to this point."
