Weekend storm allows Crystal to reopen

After being closed for more than a week because of skimpy snow, Crystal Mountain reopened Monday and plans to remain open for daily operations.

More than 20 inches of snow fell at the higher elevations in the 48 hours leading up to Monday morning, and it was still snowing later Monday.

Total snow depth in Green Valley was 45 inches. Two lifts – the Mount Rainier Gondola and Green Valley – were open Monday with the possibility of more opening Tuesday.

“This is the storm we’ve been waiting for,” said John Kircher, Crystal Mountain general manager. “The mountain is filling in nicely, and we plan to get more lifts and terrain open as soon as possible.”

The ski area is open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Lift rates are $35, but are subject to change as more lifts open.
