Recap: Penn State vs. Marshall

University Park, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ross Travis scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures for the Penn State Nittany Lions, who knocked off the Marshall Thundering Herd, 90-77, in a non-conference joust at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Donovon Jack added 18 points, seven rebounds and as many blocks for Penn State (7-3). D.J. Newbill tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, Tim Frazier flirted with a double-double (11 points, nine rebounds) and Brandon Taylor chipped in 10 points.

Kareem Canty hit 10-of-19 from the field to finish with a game-high 28 points for Marshall (4-5). Elijah Pittman and Shawn Smith each tacked on 10 points.

The Nittany Lions rolled into halftime leading 47-32. Penn State hit on 52.9 percent of its field goal tries in the frame while holding the Thundering Herd to just 29.7 percent from the floor.

After the break Marshall made some inroads by knocking down 51.7 percent of its attempts from the field, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. However Penn State stemmed the tide by hitting 10-of-12 from the free-throw line while turning in a serviceable 44.1 percent shooting effort from the floor.

Penn State outscored Marshall 48-30 in the paint and also had a 47-30 advantage on the boards.
