Tides claim national title

News Tribune staffDecember 8, 2013

Gig Harbor’s top-ranked boys cross-county team on Saturday finished what it started – an undefeated run to a national championship.

Led by senior Wolfgang Beck’s sixth-place finish, the Tides held off Christian Brothers Academy of New Jersey for the team title at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland.

Logan Carroll, the Class 4A state boys champion, placed 12th, and Tristan Peloquin was 16th. The Tides scored 111 points, far ahead of Christian Brothers Academy (139) in the low-score-wins competition.

North Central’s Kai Wilmot won the 5-kilometer title at Portland Meadows, finishing in 15 minutes. Beck came in at 15:10, followed by Carroll (15:18) and Peloquin (15:47).

In the girls competition, Camas junior Alexa Efraimson won the title in 16:50.1.
