Man hit and killed by train in Puyallup

Investigators Monday were still determining the circumstances of the death of a 27-year-old man who was hit and killed by a train in Puyallup Sunday.

The pedestrian was hit about 9:20 p.m. near 5th Street Northwest and West Stewart Avenue by an Amtrak train carrying 92 passengers to Seattle, deputy Puyallup police chief Dave McDonald said.

He died at the scene.

McDonald said there were no witnesses to the fatal crash.

The 3rd Street Southeast railroad crossing was closed for several hours as crews investigated.

Amtrak bused the passengers to Seattle.
