A fire that killed a father and his 8-year-old daughter at their Fox Island home last week appears to have been an accident, Pierce County Fire Marshal Warner Webb said Tuesday.
Investigators expected to know more Wednesday about what caused the Dec. 4 blaze that killed 62-year-old Dr. Thomas Babson and his daughter Alice, Webb said.
Fire officials have said the blaze started near the kitchen and dining room at the southwest corner of the 6,800-square-foot home in the 400 block of Sixth Avenue Northwest, because that area had the most damage.
Babson's wife, June, their 12-year-old daughter Katie, and 8-year-old son Tobey (Alice's twin) survived the fire.
A funeral for both father and daughter will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor, 7700 Skansie Avenue.
Cards can be sent to the Peninsula detachment of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, where Babson was a reserve deputy, at:
