Tacoma's Mason Middle School locked down for most of Wednesday

Staff writerDecember 11, 2013

Tacoma’s Mason Middle School was in a modified lockdown for most of Wednesday after a suspicious man was seen on campus.

The man was spotted at the school in the morning “acting strangely” but left before campus security could talk to him, said Dan Voelpel, spokesman for the Tacoma School District.

Authorities determined the man’s name and discovered he has a criminal record, so school officials decided to keep the school in lockdown for the remainder of the day as a precauition, Voelpel said.

There were not reports of injuries or mischief.
