Firefighters responded just before 7 p.m. to North 30th and North Warner Streets for a report of smoke coming from the basement of a home.

Crews contained the fire to one room of the home, and damage appeared to be minimal, Tacoma Fire Battalion Chief Dyre Fudge said.

No people were injured. One dog locked in the room died, Fudge said.
