No one injured in Tacoma drive-by shooting

Staff writerDecember 14, 2013

A drive-by shooter, armed with what police believe may have been a machine gun, fired multiple rounds in front of a South Tacoma bar early Saturday morning, frightening customers and residents of a hotel across the street.

No injuries or property damage was reported, leading police to believe that the shooter was firing blanks.

Tacoma police say a security guard at the Latitude 84 Sports Bar & Grill on South Hosmer Street reported the incident at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday

According to witnesses,  the suspect and a companion had attempted to enter the bar earlier in the evening carrying a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

After being turned away twice by security, the man drove his vehicle past the bar firing, witnesses told police.

An employee of the Red Lion Hotel, located across the street from the bar, said the shooting frightened hotel guests. One man who was in the hotel parking lot when the shooting erupted rushed into the lobby and dropped to the floor for safety, the hotel employee said.
