Seahawks win makes 12 more big winners of $35,000 each after Monday drawing

Staff writerDecember 16, 2013

Christmas came early Monday for a dozen families who purchased cars at Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way, after the Seattle Seahawks shut out the New York Giants on Sunday.

The dealership offered a promotion in which 12 people would win $35,000 each if the team made that happen.

So when the Hawks won 23-0, it was time to pay up.

The winners were chosen by drawing Monday.

Anyone who bought a car at the business between Wednesday and Saturday night got 100 entries (but could win only once). Anyone who walked in could fill out one entry. With 14 vehicles sold and 15 walk-ins, the pool was small, general manager Mike Gates said.

All 12 winners were new vehicle owners. And their stories, he said, are pretty cool:

  • A husband and wife struggling to pay medical bills, who can now do that and take a vacation.
  • A military family who wasn’t expecting the expense of a new car when their old one broke down.
  • A guy who bought a truck during the promotion and persuaded his buddy to do the same, which led to both of them winning.
  • And a woman with whom Gates said he got to share the good news on the phone while she was driving. She was so excited, she pulled over (but still bragged about using the bluetooth in her new car for the call).

There were about 100 people at the dealership for the 4 p.m. drawing, and five of the winners were there in person.

Gates expects it to take about a month for winners to get the money through the insurance company the business used for the promotion.

“It was really nice to see some really neat things happen,” he said.
