Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - Markel Starks led four Hoyas in double figures with 21 points, as Georgetown shook off a sluggish start to knock off a tough Elon squad, 85-76 Tuesday evening at the Verizon Center.

Starks was just 5-of-13 shooting from the floor, but four of his field goals came from behind the arc and he added a 7-of-8 effort from the free-throw line in the win for Georgetown (7-2). Starks was joined in double figures by D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, who poured in 19 points, Joshua Smith, who added 18 points and Nate Lubick, who finished with 10 for Georgetown, which posted its sixth straight win.

Lucas Troutman and Tanner Samson led the way for Elon (5-6), with 18 points each. Sebastian Koch added 15 points for the Phoenix, who dropped their second straight game to fall under .500 on the season.

The Phoenix were strong in the first half, shooting a scorching 57.7 percent from the floor, including an 8-of-17 effort from 3-point range, leading to a 40-39 halftime lead. Despite Elon's strong shooting in the half, there were 11 lead changes over the first 20 minutes, as Georgetown shot 44.8 percent from the floor and added a 10-of-11 effort from the free-throw line.

Georgetown caught fire in the second half, draining 65.2 percent from the floor (15-of-23), while Elon cooled off significantly at a modest 42.9 percent.

Elon actually held a slim 31-30 edge in rebounding in the game, but Georgetown outscored the Phoenix 23-9 at the free-throw line and only turned the ball over five times.
