Recap: Loyola Marymount vs. Cal Poly

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Ireland paced five teammates in double figures with 20 points, as the Loyola Marymount Lions made easy work of the Cal Poly Mustangs, 79-59, in non-conference action at Gersten Pavilion.

Ireland shot 5-of-10 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line for Loyola Marymount (7-5), while also adding five rebounds and five assists. Evan Payne netted 18 points, Ben Dickinson came off the bench to tally 14 points and seven rebounds, and Alex Osborne and CJ Blackwell scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

For Cal Poly (4-6), Chris Eversley paced all players with 21 points on 9-of-16 from the field, but he was the only Mustang to score in double figures in the setback.

Loyola held a 10-point lead early in the first half, but Cal Poly climbed back to make its deficit just two at intermission, 33-31. The Lions shot 48.1 percent from the field in the opening stanza compared to 41.9 percent for the Mustangs.

The contest remained close until midway through the second half when the Lions ripped off a 17-2 run to pull away.

Although Cal Poly committed just two more giveaways than Loyola (15-13), the Lions outscored the Mustangs in points off turnovers, 25-12.
