A total of 40 parents who recently completed a series of classes called Stand University for Parents (Stand UP) will participate in a "graduation" ceremony tonight (Wednesday Dec. 18) at Sheridan Elementary School in Tacoma.
Stand UP is a 10-week class provided by education advocacy group Stand for Children in collaboration with Tacoma Public Schools. The classes, offered in both English and Spanish, give parents information and tools for them to become more involved in their children's school success.
Stand UP has been offered in three other cities around the country, but Tacoma is the first West Coast location. The Tacoma classes were recently featured in The News Tribune. (http://www.thenewstribune.com/2013/12/07/2934888/helping-parents-navigate-schools.html)
