Tacoma man shot in groin answering the door

Staff writerDecember 18, 2013

A 39-year-old Tacoma man was shot in the groin early Wednesday morning at his apartment on the 1100 block of Yakima Avenue and had to be rushed to Madigan Army Medical Center for immediate surgery.

The man had people over when someone used the buzzer downstairs to be let up to his apartment just before 2 a.m. The man opened the door to his apartment when they knocked and was shot, according to Tacoma Police Department spokeswoman Officer Loretta Cool.

Police were unable to talk to the man because of the severity of his injuries. They don't know if he knew the person who shot him, or if there was more than one person involved, Cool said.

Police did not locate the suspect and are investigating the shooting.
