Chamber endorses school levies

Tacoma News TribuneDecember 18, 2013

The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber's board of directors has endorsed February ballot measures from three of the county's school districts.

Bethel, Franklin Pierce and Tacoma school districts each have two proposals (one for operations and one for technology) that will go before voters on Feb. 11.

Ballots are scheduled to be mailed to military voters Jan. 10 and to other voters Jan. 24.

The Chamber board said in a news release that the state has begun to fund schools more fully. The Legislature is under a state Supreme Court order to do so. The Chamber release noted that all the February levies it endorsed are scheduled to expire in 2018 -- the same year the Supreme Court has set as a deadline for full compliance with its education funding mandate.
