Fife police say man arrested for suspected ID theft, mail stolen from as many as 200 victims

Staff writerDecember 19, 2013

Just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Fife police officer recognized a vehicle as being connected to suspects in an Edgewood burglary.

The man and woman in the suspect vehicle were taken into custody. The man had multiple IDs and methamphetamine with him, and the woman told officers there was a gun and felony drugs in the vehicle, according to Fife police. She also said she had swallowed heroin, and was taken to the hospital, officers said.

Police said a search warrant found evidence linking the vehicle to the burglary, a handgun stolen in an Auburn burglary and stolen mail from as many as 200 Pierce and King county residents.

The man was booked into jail for investigation of identity theft, possession of stolen property and drugs, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Detectives are still investigating, and are working to contact owners of the stolen mail.
