Logan, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Davis recorded a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds to carry the Utah State Aggies to a 68-52 triumph over the Western Illinois Leathernecks as part of the Basketball Travelers Classic at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Spencer Butterfield and Preston Medlin each added 14 points for Utah State (7-2). The Aggies were playing in their first game since Jarred Shaw was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. Shaw is the team's leader in points, rebounds and blocked shots.
Jordan Foster managed 10 points as the leading scorer for Western Illinois (4-6).
Utah State earned itself a 35-24 halftime advantage by shooting 61.1 percent from the floor, including a 4-of-5 showing from beyond the arc, in the first half. Western Illinois lagged behind, netting just 40.7 percent from the floor.
Though the Aggies cooled to 44.4 percent shooting after the break, it was enough to hold off the Leathernecks, who knocked down just 38.5 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Western Illinois lost despite an 18-7 advantage in points off turnovers. Utah State dominated the glass, outrebounding the Leathernecks by a count of 34-18.
