Davis leads UW women past Louisiana-Monroe

Jazmine Davis scored 30 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Huskies beat the Warhawks 81-77 at the Duel in the Desert tournament Thursday in Las Vegas.

UW survived foul trouble in the second half and a 12-0 run by Louisiana-Monroe that left the Warhawks (4-6) one point behind with 4:14 to play. But Kelsey Plum converted a three-point play for the Huskies, and a Davis 3-pointer and layup helped UW get some breathing room.

The Huskies (5-3) will face DePaul on Friday and Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Saint Mary’s 71, at USC 55: Cassie Harberts had 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the Trojans (5-5) couldn’t overcome the Gaels (9-1).

Creighton 70, Oregon State 62: Jamie Weisner had 20 points and 11 rebounds, but the Beavers (6-3) couldn’t erase a 14-point halftime deficit in falling to the Bluejays (5-5) at the Duel in the Desert.


Haley Peters scored 17 points to help No. 2 Duke (11-1) beat Albany (8-2), 80-51, at home. ... Tiffany Bias made four consecutive free throws in the final 29 seconds, helping No. 13 Oklahoma State (9-0) hold on for a 63-57 win over Michigan State (6-5) in the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan.


D’Vonne Pickett Jr. sank the go-ahead layup with 21 seconds left, and Seattle University beat Norfolk State, 70-67, at the ShoWare College Classic in Kent.

Trailing most of the game, Seattle (8-3) mounted its final push with a 10-0 spurt.

Isiah Umipig scored 18 points for the Redhawks.


At No. 1 Arizona 69, Southern 43: Aaron Gordon scored 21 points, Nick Johnson added 17, and the undefeated Wildcats opened their second week at No. 1 by routing the Jaguars (3-8).

Arizona made 22 of 37 free throws — still good enough to push it to 12-0.

No. 8 Duke 80, UCLA 63: Jabari Parker had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and the Blue Devils (9-2) went 11 of 32 from 3-point range to beat the Bruins in New York.

David Wear led UCLA (9-2) with 16 points.

At Utah 69, Texas State 50: Brandon Taylor scored 18 points, and Jordan Loveridge had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Utes (10-1) past the Bobcats (3-8).

At Long Beach State 72, USC 71: Mike Caffey made the winning layup with 16 seconds left, and the 49ers (2-9) ended a nine-game skid by beating the Trojans (7-4). McClatchy news services
