Recap: Coppin State vs. Jacksonville St

Tortola, BVI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Jacksonville State Gamecocks beat the Coppin State Eagles, 72-61, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in the British Virgin Islands Tropical Shootout behind a 20 point effort from Darion Rackley.

Avery Moore came off the bench to score 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting for the Gamecocks (5-9). Jamal Hunter added nine points and as many rebounds.

The Eagles (4-7) were led by Michael Murray, Arnold Fripp, and reserve Taariq Cephas, who each scored 13 points. Cephas led the team with four assists and went 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

The first half ended with the Eagles holding a narrow, 29-27 lead. The Eagles shot 39.1 percent in the half compared to 35.7 percent for the Gamecocks.

In the second half the Gamecocks upped their shooting percentage to 50 percent and hit 11-of-13 free-throws. The Eagles offense could not keep up, as they continued to shoot below 40 percent from the floor.

The Gamecocks enjoyed a 27-18 scoring advantage from 3-point range. Each team collected 34 rebounds.
