North Little Rock, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Bobby Portis led the way with 15 points as the Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the South Alabama Jaguars, 72-60, in a non-conference clash at Verizon Arena.
For the Razorbacks (9-2), Rashad Madden added 12 points, Michael Qualls finished with 11 points and Alandise Harris scored 10.
Antoine Allen led all scorers with 21 points for the Jaguars (6-6), while Mychal Ammons chipped in with 14 points and Augustine Rubit pulled down 10 rebounds.
Arkansas shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-12 from 3-point range. South Alabama made just 35.5 percent of its field goal tries in the period, including 5-of-13 from beyond the arc. Arkansas used a 11-0 run late in the half to take a 36-27 lead into intermission.
The Jaguars continued to struggle from the floor after halftime, shooting 34.6 percent and 4-of-12 from 3-point range. The Razorbacks hit on 45.8 percent of their shots but missed all but one of their five 3-point attempts. South Alabama got to within three, 46-43, midway through the second but could get no closer, as the Razorbacks held on for the victory, their fifth- straight.
Arkansas took advantage of South Alabama's mistakes, converting 20 turnovers into 22 points. The Razorbacks dominated under the basket, outscoring the Jaguars 36-20 in the paint.
