The 2014 edition of the annual No Sun Fun Run has been scheduled for Jan. 11. The early registration deadline is Friday.

PIERCE COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION

Let’s face it, winters in the South Sound are not known for their blue sky days.

But rather than bemoan that fact, Pierce County Parks & Recreation opts to embrace it with the annual No Sun Fun Run.

Whether we have rain, hail, sleet or snow — or even sunshine — the noncompetitive run will take place Jan. 11 at 10 a.m.

The event offers a 5-kilometer and 1-mile run on the Nathan Chapman Trail.

Come dressed warm and bring your enthusiasm for one of the first 5Ks of the year. Remember, event organizers said, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.

Registration: If you register by Friday, the 1-mile run is $5 per person (no T-shirt) and the 5K fee is $20 per person (includes T-shirt). T-shirts are an additional $10 each. Registration on race day starts at 7:30 a.m. and is $20 for the 5K (no T-shirt). You can register online at the race website.

Bib/Bag pick-up: Pre-registered participants are encouraged to pick up their bib numbers, race bags and T-shirts before race day at the Parks Administration Office at the Lakewood Community Center, 9112 Lakewood Drive SW Lakewood, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 8-9.

Where: The routes start at the Heritage Recreation Center, 9010 128th St.E., Puyallup.

One-mile course: The route starts at the center, then will run two times around the outside of the ball fields and will finish inside the sports complex between fields 1 and 4.

5K course: The forested course is very flat and stroller friendly. Starting at the center, the course runs around the baseball fields, then heads south and takes a large counter-clockwise loop around South Hill Park and forested wetlands. The course then progresses back toward Heritage Recreation Center’s lower soccer fields, north along 94th Avenue, then west through the lower parking lot and ends between fields 2 and 3.
