It’s that time of year for accounting once again, thanks to the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Retail Federation.

$1.4 billion: Estimated value of candles shipped by U.S. manufacturers in 2011.

$1 billion: Value of U.S. imports of Christmas tree ornaments from China between January and September, 2013.

$93 million: Value of artificial trees imported from China during the same period.

70: Number of U.S. manufacturers of dolls and stuffed toys in 2011.

524: Number of domestic manufacturers of games, toys and children’s vehicles.

15 billion: Pieces of mail that will be delivered in the U.S. between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve.

45 million: Americans shopped on Thanksgiving Day 2013.

$407: The average amount they spent.

720,000-780,000: Seasonal retail workers hired this year.
