Recap: Rhode Island vs. Southern Miss

Kingston, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Neil Watson scored 14 points and Michael Craig finished with a double-double as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles defeated the Rhode Island Rams, 77-64, in a non-conference contest at the Ryan Center.

Craig netted 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Southern Miss (12-2), which has won three straight. Aaron Brown and Jerrold Brooks each scored 13 points as well.

E.C. Matthews and Xavier Munford each registered 17 points for Rhode Island (7-6). T.J. Buchanan tallied 10 points off the bench for the Rams, who have lost four of their last five.

Despite eight turnovers in the first half, the Golden Eagles led, 35-34, at halftime by shooting 47.8 percent from the floor. The Rams hit on just 40 percent of their field goal tries but had two more field goal attempts and a 9-3 edge in scoring from beyond the arc.

Southern Miss pulled away in the second half, shooting 53.8 percent from the field while holding the Rams to just nine field goals.

Rhode Island lost despite a 24-6 advantage in points from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles owned the glass, 37-22.
