Recap: Xavier vs. Wake Forest

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Stainbrook scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Xavier Musketeers defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 68-53, in non-conference action at Cintas Center.

James Farr finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for Xavier (10-3), while Semaj Christon contributed 12 points, dished out four assists and grabbed five rebounds.

Codi Miller-McIntyre scored 11 points to lead the Demon Deacons (10-3) going 4-for-12 from the floor. Coron Williams added 10 points and four steals.

Xavier shot 48.6 percent from the floor in the first half and took a 42-27 lead into the locker room. Wake Forest shot 33.3 percent in the first half, and was 6-of-11 from the free-throw line in the first.

Neither team led by more than three points for the first 10 minutes of action, but Xavier pulled away toward the end of the first half with a 16-0 run that spanned nearly eight minutes.

The Musketeers built a 20-point advantage, 57-37, midway through the second half, cruising to victory by holding Wake Forest to 37.9 percent shooting in the period.

Xavier outrebounded the Demon Deacons 50-34 in the contest. Wake Forest finished the game 10-for-21 from the free-throw line.
