Public invited to tour new Vashon Island school Sunday

The News TribuneDecember 30, 2013

The Vashon Island School District will host an open house for the new Vashon Island High School from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The public can tour the building with student guides, while others elaborate on significant building features and answer questions. Students will start school in the new building Jan. 6.

As part of the celebration, the ASB will host a Demolition Carnival on Jan. 9, with proceeds helping subsidize extracurricular activities and provide assistance to students who need financial aid.

The event will include activities ranging from demolishing walls to harvesting building artifacts. Tickets to ride on an excavator as it tears down part of the old high school also will be available for purchase.

The district will lead regular tours of the new high school until spring. For tour times and information, go to vashonsd.org.
