Recap: Portland vs. Santa Clara

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by Brandon Clark and Evan Roquemore, each with 20 points and six assists, the Santa Clara Broncos defeated the Portland Pilots, 76-68. in a West Coast Conference clash at the Chiles Center.

For the Broncos (8-7, 1-1 WCC), Jared Brownridge also finished with 20 points. The trio of top scorers combined to shoot 11-of-17 from 3-point range.

Thomas Van Der Mars led all scorers with 23 points for the Pilots (8-6, 0-2), while Kevin Bailey added 19 points and Ryan Nicholas posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Santa Clara knocked down 6-of-13 from 3-point range in the first half, part of a 42.9 percent shooting performance, as the Broncos went into halftime with a 37-31 advantage. Portland shot 46.2 percent from the field in the half but 0- of-2 from 3-point range.

Broncos shot 44 percent from the field in the second and continued to have success from deep, hitting on 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Pilots struggled from the floor after the break, shooting just 35.3 percent from the field and 2-of-9 from 3-point range. Portland made it a one-possession game on several occasions, the latest at 4:36 to play and trailing just 58-55, but could get no closer, as Santa Clara held on for the road victory.

The Broncos won the game from long distance, finishing with a 36-6 scoring advantage from beyond the 3-point arc. Portland did control the frontcourt, outrebounding Santa Clara, 43-27, and outscoring it in the paint, 32-12.
