House fire in Kent caused by electrical malfunction

Staff writerJanuary 2, 2014

Investigators said an electrical problem caused a Kent house to catch fire Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called about 10:25 p.m. to the home in the 15000 block of 20th Avenue South after the five people who live there noticed smoke coming from the roof.

Capt. Kyle Ohashi said the blaze burned a long time before it was noticed, charring the roof trusses and discoloring the ceiling.

Firefighters put a hole in the roof to extinguish the fire.

No one was injured.
