Recap: Idaho State vs. Portland State

Pocatello, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Three Idaho State players scored at least 20 points, as the Bengals bested the Portland State Vikings, 87-76, in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams at Holt Arena.

Chris Hansen led the way with 27 points for Idaho State (4-6, 1-0 Big Sky), shooting 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the process. Andre Hatchett and Tomas Sanchez registered 24 and 20 points, respectively, with the duo combining to shoot 19-of-25 from the free-throw line. Evann Hall added nine points and eight rebounds for the hosts.

For Portland State (5-5, 0-1), Andre Wilson and DaShaun Wiggins scored 13 points apiece, Marcus Hall and Tim Douglas each poured in 12 and Zach Gengler netted 11.

Even though Idaho State outshot Portland State from the field in the first half, 50 percent to 35.3 percent, it only lead by three at the break, 39-36. The Vikings kept the game close by shooting 6-of-14 from 3-point range and collecting eight offensive rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

The Vikings grabbed a five-point lead early in the second half by stringing together an 8-0 run, but the Bengals quickly responded with an 11-2 run of their own to go back up by four. Idaho State never trailed from that point forward.

Idaho State hung on to win despite losing the turnover battle, 21-11.
