Recap: Portland vs. Pacific

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomas Van Der Mars tallied 18 points and 13 rebounds, as the Portland Pilots downed the Pacific Tigers, 72-64, in a West Coast Conference clash at the Chiles Center.

Ryan Nicholas (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Bryce Pressely (12 points, 10 rebounds) also logged double-doubles for the Pilots (9-6, 1-2 WCC), while Kevin Bailey poured in 15 points.

For Pacific (9-4, 1-1), Sama Taku led all scorers with 18 points, while Trevin Harris and Ross Rivera netted 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Portland led 35-28 heading into the halftime locker room even though it only shot 39.4 percent from the field in the opening stanza. Pacific struggled even worse, shooting 33.3 percent from the floor.

The Pilots' lead swelled to as many as 14 in the second half, and while the Tigers brought their deficit to just two, 53-51, with 6:28 left to play, they would get no closer. Portland scored six unanswered points from there to pull away.

Portland shot an impressive 21-of-29 from the free-throw line, while Pacific was just 8-of-14 from the stripe.
