Sumner-Orting Valley shooting injures 1

Emergency crews responded shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday to a reported shooting in the 14000 block of 96th Street East in the Sumner-Orting Valley.

A patient with at least one gunshot wound was taken to an area trauma center, East Pierce Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Rick Goetz said in a release.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department was still investigating the circumstances of the shooting Sunday afternoon, spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The patient's injuries were not life-threatening, he said.
