Temporary viaduct on eastbound SR 16 to be demolished this weekend

Staff writerJanuary 8, 2014

A section of South Tacoma Way will be closed this weekend while crews demolish the temporary viaduct on eastbound state Route 16.

Work on the permanent viaduct wrapped up Monday, enabling state Department of Transportation crews to begin tearing down the old viaduct as part of the Nalley Valley project.

All lanes of South Tacoma Way between Pine and Wilkeson streets will be shut down from 7 p.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Monday. A detour will be set up to South Center Street.

The closure is necessary so workers can demolish parts of the temporary viaduct that spans over the city street, WSDOT spokesman Doug Adamson said.
