A fire broke out at a Tacoma home late Wednesday and caused $19,000 in damage, according to the Fire Department.

Investigators have not yet determined what started the blaze at a 1,600-square-foot home in the 5900 block of South Verde Street.

Crews were called about 10 p.m. to the two-story house and found flames coming from the bedroom of an apartment above the garage.

The residents who were home were able to get out safely and firefighters quickly knocked down the fire.
