Man critically injured, woman in serious condition following Sunday crash north of Edgewood

Staff writerJanuary 9, 2014

A head-on crash Sunday north of Edgewood that critically injured two Auburn residents happened when a Lake Tapps man crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, investigators have determined.

King County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cindi West said Thursday that deputies don't yet know what caused the 33-year-old to drive his SUV into the other lane.

The 70-year-old Auburn man who was driving the minivan the SUV hit was in critical condition, and his 65-year-old female passenger was in serious condition Thursday, West said.

West initially reported that a 4-year-old girl in the Lake Tapps man's vehicle was also critically injured in the wreck, but said Thursday the girl had suffered only minor injuries.

The 33-year-old was not injured.

The crash happened about 1:45 p.m. in the 37200 block of Military Road South.
