Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Semaj Christon scored a career-high 28 points on 8-of-10 from the field, as the Xavier Musketeers defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles, 86-79, in a Big East Conference matchup at the Cintas Center.
Justin Martin scored 15 points and added eight rebounds for Xavier (13-3, 3-0 Big East). Dee Davis added 13 points and six assists while James Farr scored 10. The Musketeers have won eight straight contests.
Davante Gardner paced the Golden Eagles (9-7, 1-2) with 19 points and four boards. Jake Thomas added 17 points, Deonte Burton chipped in 13 and Todd Mayo scored 10 points.
Xavier made 46.4 percent of its first-half field goal attempts, including 2-of-8 from 3-point range. The Musketeers held a 40-34 lead at the break. Marquette shot 39.3 percent from the floor, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.
The Musketeers came out of intermission hot, making 61.1 percent of their field goal tries in the second stanza. The Golden Eagles shot 52.9 percent from the floor. Marquette shot the ball 16 more times than the Musketeers in the game, but Xavier outscored it at the foul line, 32-10, to pull away late.
The Musketeers dominated the glass, outrebounding Marquette, 39-20.
