Staff writerJanuary 10, 2014

Anyone 6 months to 18 years old can get a free flu shot Saturday at the South Hill Mall.

Vaccines will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the entrance to the Old Country Buffet at 3500 South Meridian, according to The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

Parent or guardian permission will be required. Nasal flu vaccines will also be available. Adult vaccines will be $30.

The Health Department, Medical Reserve Corps of Pierce County and MultiCare Children’s Immunization Services are sponsoring the clinic.

So far, there have been 11 flu deaths in the state this season, the state Department of Health said Friday.

The number is not unusual, spokesman Marqise Allen said, but the department urged everyone over the age of 6 months to have a vaccination. The swine flu has been the most common strain, and the current vaccine available covers the H1N1 virus.
