Thousands without power in Pierce County

Staff writerJanuary 11, 2014

Thousands of people in Pierce County woke up without power this morning after high winds raked the area Friday night.

Tacoma Public Utilities reported 7,000 customers without power in Lakewood, University Place, Fife, Roy and some parts of Graham at around 5 a.m.

A spokesman said crews are on the job, trying to restore power, but he warned it could be a few hours.

At 6 a.m. TPU reported the number of those without power was down to 6,000 customers without. Part of University Place is expected to be back up within the hour.

Crews are on the street, going as fast as they safely can, TPU says.
