Recap: Ga Southern vs. Western Carolina

Statesboro, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - James Sinclair scored 15 points and recorded three steals as the Western Carolina Catamounts held on for a 68-67 decision over the Georgia Southern Eagles in a Southern Conference battle at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Trey Sumler and Brandon Boggs added 13 points each for the Catamounts (10-8, 3-0 SoCon) as they picked up their fourth consecutive win. Sumler also dealt out six of Western Carolina's 13 assists.

Jelani Hewitt poured in a game-high 23 points for GSU (8-9, 1-1). Tre Bussey contributed 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor while Brian Holmes and Angel Matias netted 11 points each. Matias also pulled down eight boards in the losing effort.

Despite missing all seven of their attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, the Eagles took a 29-27 lead into the intermission. WCU went into the break trailing after shooting 47.8 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The Catamounts took control in the second period by connecting on 14-of-31 shots from the field and also, 10-of-15 tries at the free-throw line. Sumler knocked down a jumper with seven seconds left to give WCU a 68-64 advantage before Hewitt's last second 3-pointer reduced the margin to a single-point just prior to the final buzzer.

The Catamounts converted GSU's 11 turnovers into 15 points and outscored the Eagles, 15-6, from behind the 3-point line.
