San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stacy Davis scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double as the Pepperdine Waves held on to beat the San Diego Toreros, 69-65, in West Coast Conference action at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Davis connected on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, and hit a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. Jeremy Major was the only other Waves player in double digits, netting 12 points and dishing out a team-best five assists for Pepperdine (11-7, 4-2 WCC). The Waves snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.
Four players recorded double-digit point totals for the Toreros (10-8, 1-4). Dennis Kramer scored 17, while Duda Sanadze added 14 and four rebounds. Chris Sarbaugh contributed 12 points and Johnny Dee had 11. San Diego has lost four of its last five games.
Pepperdine shot 40.7 percent in the first half, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. The Waves went into halftime with a 36-30 lead. The Toreros shot 47.8 percent from the floor in the initial 20 minutes.
San Diego did its best to catch up in the second half, shooting 63.2 percent from the field and outscoring Pepperdine 35-33 in the frame, but it wasn't enough. The Waves shot 47.6 percent in the second half and were 11-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Pepperdine took advantage of 17 San Diego giveaways and outscored the Toreros 22-9 in points off turnovers. The Waves had the edge at the free-throw line, 20-14, in the four-point game.
