389 DUI suspects arrested during holidays in Pierce County

Staff writerJanuary 13, 2014

Officers arrested 389 Pierce County drivers suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol from Nov. 27 to Jan. 1, the state said Monday.

That's compared to 2,723 arrests statewide, and 543 in Pierce County during the same period last year, the Washington Traffic Safety Commission said.

The State Patrol, Pierce County Sheriff's Department, and Bonney Lake, Fife, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Puyallup, Sumner, Tacoma and University Place police took part in the extra patrols.

A Traffic Safety Commission grant funded the patrols for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, as part of the Target Zero program that aims to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in the state by 2030.
