Tacoma schools name contractor for two historic school rebuilds

Tacoma News TribuneJanuary 15, 2014

Tacoma Public Schools wants Seattle-based company Skansa to serve as general contractor and construction manager for two upcoming historic school rebuilding projects.

McCarver Elementary and Stewart Middle School were both built in 1924; both are on the city and state historic registers. Construction at both schools is scheduled to start in summer 2015. A rebuilt McCarver should open in September 2016 and a rebuilt Stewart is set to open in September 2017, according to the school district.

The school district announced that it plans to negotiate a contract with Skansa this month and seek final school board approval in February.

In Tacoma, the company's previous projects include the Museum of Glass and the modernization of Stadium High School.
