Fort Lauderdale, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleveland Browns wide receiver Davone Bess was arrested Friday morning for assaulting an officer/firefighter.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the former Dolphins wideout was taken into custody at the airport and charged with assault on an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence.

A CBS website based in Miami reported Bess was arrested at Fort Lauderdale International Airport around 6:20 a.m. ET on Friday, one day after the 28- year-old posted a photo on Twitter depicting a possible banned substance.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer obtained a statement from the Browns stating the team is "aware of the situation and currently working to gather more information."

Bess was placed on the non-football illness list for the final two games of this past season. He finished with 42 catches for 362 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games, including three starts.
