Boise, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Marks scored 19 points and Ryan Watkins posted a double-double to carry the Boise State Broncos to a 78-74 victory over the Utah State Aggies in a Mountain West Conference conflict at Taco Bell Arena.
Watkins finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds for Boise State (13-5, 3-2 MWC), which has won back-to-back games. Nick Duncan added 17 points and Anthony Drmic chipped in 10.
Jarred Shaw tallied a game-high 24 points to pace Utah State (12-5, 2-3). Preston Medlin tacked on 16 points and Spencer Butterfield contributed 10.
The Broncos held a 34-31 advantage at halftime after shooting 40.7 percent from the floor in the opening period, including a 7-of-17 showing from beyond the arc. The Aggies shot a superior 48.1 percent overall, but had just a pair of 3-pointers.
In the second half Utah State heated up to 55.6 percent shooting, including a 7-of-10 performance from 3-point range. However, Boise State was able to hold on by outscoring the Aggies 13-6 from the free-throw line.
Boise State owned the glass with a 35-23 advantage in rebounds. Utah State had 19 assists on 28 field goals.
