Fresno, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Deonte Burton scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Nevada Wolfpack to a 96-86 double-overtime victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs in Mountain West Conference action at the Save Mart Center.
Burton was 14-of-20 shooting from the floor for Nevada (10-9, 5-1 MW). Cole Huff also contributed over 30 points, netting 31 and securing eight rebounds in the win. Jerry Evans Jr. chipped in 15 points and six rebounds for the Wolfpack, who have won five of their last six games.
Tyler Johnson scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the double-double to lead Fresno State (8-12, 1-6). Marvelle Harris also notched a double-double for the Bulldogs, scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Allen Huddleston contributed 13 points, Alex Davis had 12, Cezar Guerrero scored 11 and Paul Watson tallied 10. The Bulldogs have lost four in a row and six of their last seven.
The two teams battled it out in the first half, shooting nearly identical percentages from the floor. Nevada connected on 45.7 percent of its shots, while Fresno State hit on 46.7 percent shooting. The teams went into halftime tied, 37-37.
The Wolfpack shot 55.2 percent from the floor in the second period, while Fresno State hit just 39.4 percent. But the teams were still deadlocked at the end of 40 minutes. Burton hit a layup with eight seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at 76-76, and a Guerrero missed 3-pointer at the buzzer sent the contest to overtime.
Leading 81-80 with 10 seconds to play in the first overtime period, Huddleston hit a free-throw to give Fresno State a two-point lead, 82-80. But Huff hit a layup with one second remaining to tie the game at 82 apiece, sending it to a second OT period. The Wolfpack caught fire in double overtime, scoring 14 points compared to Fresno State's four and leaving with a 96-86 victory.
Nevada held the edge in points in the paint, 42-26, and a 17-10 advantage in second chance points. Fresno State had a 25-4 lead in bench points.
