TRACKING LOCAL GOLFERS ON THE PGA TOUR

This week: Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines South and North courses, La Jolla, Calif.

In the field: Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and University Place’s Michael Putnam.

World rankings: Stanley is 136th, and Putnam is 172nd.

2013-14 earnings: Stanley has $133,037 (101st on the PGA Tour), and Putnam has $94,808 (122nd on the PGA Tour).

The skinny: This week marks the first time in 2014 that more than one local will tee it up in the same tournament. Putnam is 2-for-2 in cuts made this season, including a tied-for-48th showing at last week’s Humana Challenge (14-under-par 274). The Life Christian Academy graduate has good mojo on this week’s course — he tied for 16th at this event in 2007, his rookie year. … Oh, that 18th hole — can Stanley ever get away from it? That wedge approach shot on the finishing par 5 that spun back into the pond in 2012 cost the Bellarmine Prep graduate the tournament title and cast him as one of the PGA Tour’s tragic figures. Despite missing the cut at Torrey Pines last season, Stanley loves this layout. He got off to a late start with his practice and preparation, so this week will be Stanley’s debut in 2014.

Tee times Thursday: Stanley at 9:20 a.m. off the South Course’s 10th tee, and Putnam at 11 a.m. off the North’s 10th tee.
