Recap: Citadel vs. Western Carolina

Charleston, SC ( - Tom Tankelewicz poured in 15 points off the bench to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts to a 78-60 victory over The Citadel Bulldogs in a Southern Conference bout at McAlister Field House.

Trey Sumler and Justin Browning each netted 10 points for WCU (12-10, 5-2 SoCon), which snapped a two-game losing skid. Sumler also dished out eight assists for the visitors.

For the Citadel (4-18, 0-7), losers of 10 straight, Matt Van Scyoc scored 25 points on 6-of-17 from the field and 12-of-13 at the foul line while adding 10 rebounds as well. Brian White and Ashton Moore were also solid with 11 points apiece.

WCU opened up a comfortable 38-24 lead at intermission after shooting 48.1 percent from the field in the opening stanza and holding the Citadel to just 38.1 percent shooting.

The Catamounts' advantage was never in question after the break, as the Bulldogs never came closer than 11 points.

WCU dominated down low by winning the rebounding battle, 43-27, and outscoring the Citadel in the paint, 38-17.
